Joining the Ordo Astrum Sophiæ is about exploring ancient wisdom and magickal practices in a structured and supportive setting. Our experienced members guide newcomers through a well-established path within the Western Mystery Tradition, fostering a deeper understanding of the esoteric philosophies and practices that form the foundation of our tradition.

We welcome individuals from the Las Vegas Valley and beyond who are keen to delve into the study and practice of magick within a communal setting. Our group provides a conducive in-person environment for both group and individual practice, discussions, and learning.

ORDO ASTRUM SOPHIÆ

Ordo Astrum Sophiæ is an initiatic magickal order in the Ogdoadic Tradition of the Western Mystery Tradition. We are committed to the ideals of Spiritual Regeneration and the manifestation of the ambience and Light of the eightfold Glorious Star. The fivefold pattern of the House of Sacrifice is at once both the method of reaching attainment and an image of the structure of our psyche. Initiates undergo training in the traditional degree structure, which comprises three grades, called Halls. The path of initiation is focused on practice – magickal and theurgic. Instructions consist of public and non-public material of the Ogdoadic Tradition.

GOLDEN SUN

Located in the Las Vegas Valley, the Citadel of the Golden Sun operates under the authority of the Grand Commandery of Adocentyn, serving as a dedicated space to support and guide individuals seeking Gnosis and Regeneration within the Ogdoadic Tradition. It acts as an entry point and a means of connection to the larger Ordo Astrum Sophiæ. Please note that initiation into our order is strictly by invitation only. However, individuals interested in joining may apply for admission as a Probationer.

OGDOADIC TRADITION

The Ogdoadic Tradition represents a distinctive branch of the Western Mystery Tradition, drawing inspiration from the Hermetica while maintaining its unique identity separate from Rosicrucian and Thelemic practices. It incorporates elements from Neoplatonism, Qabalah, ceremonial magic, and mysticism. The primary source material for the tradition is found in Melita Denning’s and Osborne Phillips’s work, “The Magickal Philosophy.”

DIRECTOR

The Director of the Citadel of the Golden Sun discovered the Ogdoadic Tradition in the mid-1980s and was deeply moved by the harmony, beauty, and effectiveness of its rituals and initiation ceremonies.

With over 30 years of involvement in the Western Mystery Tradition, He spent the early 1990s as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, has ordained and trained in both schools of Japanese esoteric Buddhism (Tendai & Shingon), received Inga/Inka in Korean Seon/Zen in 2011, and has attained advanced Adept status in multiple compatible systems/Orders.

Additionally, he holds a PhD in Clinical Psychology and has taught at the collegiate level.

STUDY GROUP

The Citadel of the Golden Sun is pleased to offer a local study group focused on the Magickal Philosophy. This group provides a platform for individuals in Las Vegas, Nevada, to engage in personal encounters, theoretical studies within the Ogdoadic Tradition, and simple practices from the Western Mystery Tradition corpus. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced student, you are welcome to join, although the group primarily caters to those starting their journey. While the study group can be accompanied by the Probationer program, there is no formal affiliation required at this stage.

Topics

The meetings will cover various topics based on the group’s needs and interests, which may include:

Hermetic and Neoplatonic philosophy
The Ogdoadic Tradition
Hermetic Qabalah and its role in the Western Mystery Tradition
Magick, ritual, and theurgy in theory and basic practice
Fundamental techniques of meditation
The spiritual path of initiation and development in the Western Mystery Tradition

If relevant and intriguing, discussions may explore similarities between the Ogdoadic Tradition and other traditions.

Payment

According to the order’s constitution, the study group operates as a service for the Ogdoadic Tradition, and therefore no fees are charged.

Admission Requirements

Individuals aged 21 and above are welcome to contact the Administrator of The Citadel of the Golden Sun to express their interest in joining the study group. There is no formal affiliation with Astrum Sophiæ or The Citadel of the Golden Sun at this stage, although regular attendance in the group can be beneficial. As the study group meets in person, it is necessary to have the ability to travel to Las Vegas on a monthly basis, at the very least.
